From Lupercus to Valentinus- a Celebration of Courtly Love- Bright Hills Baronial Birthday

On the most romantic day of the year, we will take time to reflect on the history of the day, from Lupercus to Valentinus and to understand and celebrate the ideal of courtly love. Bring your special someone and all your friends and family as we celebrate romance in true SCA style, complete with singing, dancing, learning, and a lavish romantic feast! Join the Barony of Bright Hills as we celebrate our Baronial Birthday!

Martial activities: Heavy weapons fighting will be held weather permitting, MIC Baron Temur of the Kerait, temurkhan@comcast.net

A&S activities: A & S Classes will be offered throughout the day, an A & S Commentary display area will host displays of projects completed or in progress for commentary and help for those who are aiming to display at the Kingdom Arts and Sciences in March. Lord Richard Wynn will host the second annual Bardic at Ten Paces- a Bardic Bear Pit competition- come prepared with your best bardic skills! Tavern space will also be available for bards to congregate, sing, swap stories, share songs and brew mischief.

Children’s activities: will be available during the day. Lady Nina of Bright Hills will host the popular “children’s corner” and activities will be available through the day. Parents are asked to volunteer some time to help with children’s corner as well.

The Saturday lunch will be offered as a fundraiser. The romantic evening feast will be prepared by the famed Bright Hills Cooks Guild with Master Chirhart Blackstar as head cook assisted by Lady Dierdre O’Bardon and the rest of the cook’s guild.

No family (of parents and children) shall pay more than $40 total in site fees.

Total refunds will be available if the reservationist or Event Steward receives your request by February 7th, 2009. Onsite feast refunds are available ONLY if we are able to resell your seat.

SITE: Manchester Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall, on fairgrounds at York Street and Locust Street, 3291 York street, Manchester, MD 21102

SITE NOTES: This site is discreetly wet, conforming with all applicable laws. No smoking in any building. No Pets are permitted on site. The building is handicapped accessible and has accessible restrooms.


Directions:
From the South: Take your best route to I-795 northwest of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and continue to Exit 9A toward Hanover, merge onto Butler Rd/MD-128/MD-795, Turn left at Hanover Rd./MD-30 and continue 13.4 miles then turn right on York St. and go 0.3 miles to destination on right. The entrance is at the corner of York and Locust streets.

From the North: Take I-83 south to Exit 8 for PA-216 South toward Glen Rock, follow onto PA-216/Sticks School Rd., take Right at PA-516/Lineboro Rd., Continue East on Main St./MD-86, make slight left on Water Tank Rd., continue straight onto Millers Stations Rd., continue on York St. to destination on left.
