Battle of the Oranges
(2008-03-29 - Site opens at 10 AM & Closes at 10 PM)
Kapellenberg

The people of the village of Ivrea gather each year to commemorate the downfall of a tyrant and to compete between fraternities to prove their worth and superiority. And so we, too, gather in Windmasters Hill, to compete with friends and celebrate the arrival of spring. Bring your fraternity of just yourself or up to nine of your closest friends to demonstrate your mastery of the arts and wage battle on the melee field. The winning fraternity shall be that which garners the most accolades and performs best in all areas of competition. Do you not wish to compete as a fraternity? Come anyway and judge your fellows’ performances, and garner accolades for yourself! The day will conclude with a sumptuous feast prepared by Lady Guenievre de Monmarche!

Martial Activities: Heavy and rapier melee scenarios are planned. And it wouldn't be warfare in Italy without Genovese bowmen, so combat archers are welcome! Points for fraternities will be awarded for prowess and valor by observers.

Arts & Sciences Activities: Arts and Sciences points awarded in all competitions will further the efforts of your team to win the day's prize. Youth may enter all competitions and will be given age-appropriate feedback based on the age of the artist indicated on the display form.
Cooking Competition: Edible creations featuring the theme (not just the flavor or the color . . . be creative!) of "orange.” Recipes required; documentation encouraged.

Static A&S Competition: Items in any media used for the celebration of Carnival or other similar festivals encouraging relaxed morals, populace misrule, or disregard of government authority. Foolery and impudence welcomed! Documentation required.

Live Performance Competition: Stir the populace to overthrow the dictator, to cast off the bonds of morality and sane conduct, and to embrace the spirit of Carnival through music, verse, speeches or short theatrical presentations (10 minutes or less). Sign up for one or more performances (schedule permitting) on the battlefield.

Costume Competition: Throughout the day the populace can award points to the Lords and Ladies in the best Carnival costuming.
