This year, the Canton of Middlegate will be headed east -- far east!  Bring your wool garb and shiny treasure, for we will be looking at what is we now know as Russia and Byzantium.  These massive cultures are full of legendary stories and myths, which make them perfect to base this year’s Of the Stone event -- in fact, we’ll have scavenger hunts and games based around tales such as Baba Yaga.

To honor such tales, we will also host a bardic competition.  Bring your favorite medieval Slavic or Byzantium story, song, or poetry!  We will be certain to be entertained.  Don’t like performing? These cultures are full of glitter and gold, and so there will be A&S competitions and static displays of your best “shiny” works.  Anything that is decorative (such as jewelry, metal, or embroidery) is welcome to be entered.

Not everyone is entertained by the arts, and so for them we will be offering heavy fighting, rapier, and thrown weapons.  Bring your courage, brawn, and cunning!  (And for onlookers, perhaps a cloak and a hot drink as well.)

For the littlest of our mighty SCAdians, in addition to learning about fairy tales, there will be activities such as egg-decorating and headdress-making.  At the end of the day, perhaps a parade of their finery would be called for.

Everyone loves food (and in particular, Murienne’s medieval creations), and this event will have plenty of it.  A dayboard lunch is included with the site fee, and a (pre-registered) feast will be served in the evening.  We will certainly have a Slavic twist to it, so stay tuned for more!

Site:  Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. 1355 Jonestown Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27103. Site opens 8am, closes 9pm.

Site Restrictions:  Smoking only in designated areas. No Pets. (Service animals allowed) Children must be under parent or guardian supervision at all times. Alcohol for competition entries and feast only.
