Barnacled Bullfrog
(2006-01-28 - Site opens at 11 AM & Closes at 12 PM)
Marinus

Come celebrate, good Queen Bess has gone to her reward and it seems to be the end of an era. The Barnacled Bullfrog will make its next appearance in the seaport town of Cork, Ireland. The year is 1603 and the winds have grown cold the trade routs are closed down. Come and enjoy the company of Rogues, Wenches, Cutpurses and Gamblers. The tavern will offer games of chance and skill, food and song, and maybe a bar fight or two. Due to an unfortunate fire all the Bullfrogs spirits have been consumed. Therefore all things fermented and distilled must be brought with you, in order to justify my barkeeps wages he will gladly hold the items and serve them to you. A word from the Barrister.

On January 28, 2006 the Barony of Marinus will be hosting the Barnacled Bullfrog at the Planters Club in Suffolk. The site is wet and there will be no children’s activities. A sideboard will be available for lunch and a Tavern style dinner will be served. A Rapier tourney with silly seconds is planned as well as archery. The site is open from 11am until midnight.

Directions:
From the North: Follow I-64 East to Newport News/Hampton. Immediately after you pass the Hampton Coliseum, take the exit for I-664 South. Follow I-664 across the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel, into Suffolk. Take the Rt 17 exit (exit 9, Bridge Rd). The exit forks - take the right fork for Rt 17 North. Go straight at the stoplight at the end of the off ramp. Go approx 3 miles on Rt 17 to the light at Bennets Pasture Rd (the right side is named "Bennets Creek Ln") -- if you cross the Nansemond River you went too far. Turn left onto Bennets Pasture Rd. Go approx 3 miles and turn right onto Sleepy Hole Rd (629), then go about a mile and turn right onto Planter's Club Rd. The site is at the end of the road.

From the West and Southwest: Take your best route to US-58 East in Suffolk. Turn left onto Nansemond Parkway (337). Go about 1½ miles, and turn left onto Sleepy Hole Rd (629), then go a little less than 3 miles and turn left onto Planters Club Rd.

From Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach: Take your best route to the intersection of I-64, I-264, and I-664 in western Chesapeake (for most of us, that will be I-264 westbound through downtown Norfolk and through the Downtown Tunnel). Go north on I-664. Take the Rt 337 W/Portsmouth Blvd exit (exit 11A). After about 4 miles, take a slight right onto Rt 125, where 337 takes a steep curve to the left. Follow it for 0.2 miles and turn right onto Rt 629 (Driver Ln). 629/Driver Ln will become Sleepy Hole Rd - follow this road for a total of almost 2 miles, and turn right onto Planter's Club Rd. Alternatively, find your best way to I-264W in downtown Norfolk and take the Berkley Bridge/Downtown Tunnel. From I-264, take the Frederick Blvd exit (Alt 17N). Turn left on High St (17N) and approx 9 miles later turn left at the light onto Bennets Pasture Rd (the right side is named "Bennets Creek Ln") -- if you cross the Nansemond River you went too far. Turn left onto Bennets Pasture Rd. Go approx 3 miles and turn right onto Sleepy Hole Rd (629), then go about a mile and turn right onto Planter's Club Rd. The site is at the end of the road.
