Highland Foorde
Last fall, the Barony of Highland Foorde successfully defended the Western Road leading to the Western Regions from being blockaded by the lawless folks in Sylvan Glen. During this campaign, we happened upon a stunning Sylver Apple, and were immediately drawn to its power. We were entranced by the rumors that it provides abundant crops, mild weather, and much prosperity for the Shire of Sylvan Glen, and seized it as a spoil of war.The Sylver Apple has indeed boosted our crop production quite significantly, and this has proven to be a great boon for our ever-growing Barony. Efforts to develop our Western Region continue, but that area is proving to be more challenging than we first anticipated. There are some brave, hearty souls there now, and their work has started to provide raw materials such as lumber and the blackstone that burns, but working croplands and grazing lands are still well into the future. Aethelmearc still fears that this colony has a military purpose and may once again try to lay siege to the Western Road. We cannot allow this to happen, as development of this area is vital to the future of Highland Foorde.
We have confirmed the dire rumors that the Apple’s power will begin to wane if it is too long from its home in Sylvan Glen and the apple will start to decay, causing great damage or even destruction to our Barony, and will indeed, spread throughout the entire Kingdom of Atlantia. What shall we do about this? We could just give the Apple back to Sylvan Glen, but its ability to produce bountiful harvests and grant prosperity is a powerful inducement to keep it for Highland Foorde.
We must return the Sylver Apple to the Shire of Sylvan Glen to allow the magical powers to regenerate. Our information gatherers have determined that there is a very narrow time frame for this to occur and that the people of Sylvan Glen will know when we are coming. In preparation for this battle, they have been stockpiling weapons and supplies and have chosen a champion to lead their forces against us. Therefore, we call upon our allies to come to our aid as we march once again on the Shire of Sylvan Glen to protect the future of Highland Foorde.
Martial Activities: Heavy combat, youth combat, target archery, fencing, and thrown weapons Arts & Sciences Activities: The theme for this year's arts and sciences competition is Bothersome Beasts and Marauding Monsters. To be sure that the populace is aware of what exactly is a bothersome beast or a marauding monster, we call upon artisans to produce their best renderings of a creature in their media of choice. Paint a picture of a hydra, build a griffon out of clay, carve a dragon out of soap, or weave a sphinx from homespun. All efforts are welcome. To cap our celebrations, we will have a bardic competition, so practice your best beast song, polish your most lyrical monster poem, present your finest creature-feature story (all period, of course).
