The Mercer Shoppe
(2008-09-20 - Site opens at 9 AM & Closes at 7 PM)
Ritterwald
Ah…lovely autumn! And with September comes the new season of tournaments, feasts, masks, and courts to attend, but what to wear? Certainly not last year’s tunic! And what if one’s tailor has not visited the estate? Or, worse yet, one must tailor for themselves? What to do? There are fabrics to purchase, patterns to draft, measurements to take, garments to design, seams to stitch, and fittings to do to make sure that the new ensemble is flattering. This can be a lot to consider for the modern medieval busy with the daily management of their estates.
But good fortune is with those gentles wishing assistance in creating wonderful, new clothing to enjoy during the winter months ahead. The village of Winterhafen located in the heart of the Canton of Ritterwald has a well-stocked mercer shoppe, which will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2008. In addition to the normal findings of fabric, trim, sewing accessories, and other items that people bring to buy, sell, or trade, this particular mercer shoppe will host a series of classes, specifically geared toward those gentles who wish to hone their skills on the early periods of clothing.
Other merchants are certainly welcome, but please give advance notice of intention as space is limited. Availability of lunch is limited. Please send reservations by September 13 to ensure space.
Local taverns are close by for supper after the close of the shoppe and lodging is readily available in the village at local inns. There will be a post-shopping revel at the home of THL Arielle ben Dubh, with a bonfire and tenting available.
