Description:
Shoot for the stars! Come take your chances on an archery range inspired by period astronomy and astrology designed by Randviðr Karubondi and Kara Bryttiadottir.

The Barony of Lochmere invites archers to join our Barony at a scenic waterfront site in Annapolis, Maryland for a day of archery, atlatl, good food, and companionship. As always, the main event will be the challenging walk- through shoot. The path climbs through some rolling hillside but is not particularly steep. Whether you shoot or not, the Barony encourages you to come for the food, and the socializing with old and new friends. There will also be an A&S competition (A Devilish Day of Largess) inspired by the Codex Gigas. If you are a newcomer to the SCA, this is a nice, low-key event to learn about archery and Atlatl.

~5pm Feast as it is ready, Judging for A Devilish Day of Largess

Legend tells us that the infamous Codex Gigas—the largest medieval manuscript ever created—was completed in a single night, fueled by a scribe’s desperate deal with the Devil. In a twist of fate and generosity, this myth now inspires a daring day of creativity, craftsmanship, and largess at our one-of-a-kind event!

A Race Against Time – Largess Craft Competition
Channel the legendary determination of the Codex Gigas' creator! At 10 am the day’s challenge theme will be revealed. You will have until the evening feast (~5 pm) to complete your entries entirely on site. Your task: create at least three pieces of largess—one to honor the contest winner, one as a personal token of your own artistry, and one as a tribute to the Baronage. Every piece must incorporate a provided component, ensuring a unifying element throughout your work.

Documentation in the Spirit of the Scribe
As you work, record your inspirations and process just as a medieval scribe would. Bring your notebooks, sketches, or digital devices to capture the evolution of your largess. Extra merit is awarded for weaving in themes or techniques drawn from the legend of the Codex Gigas!

Mystery Component
There will be a required mystery component that will be provided for key medieval crafts: Woodworking, Leatherworking, Fiber Arts, and Scribal Arts. Bring your tools and supplies to create your masterpieces.

Feast & Judging
As the evening feast commences, your largess entries will be collected and evaluated by our esteemed panel. Judges will assess each piece on historical authenticity, creative expression, technical craftsmanship, and the innovative integration of the provided component.

Facilities and Safety
The required mystery component will be provided. No necessary crafting tools will be provided. Please note that for safety reasons, open flames are not permitted on site.

Prepare your tools, gather your tomes, and ignite your imagination for a devilishly delightful day of generous medieval artistry—all inspired by the enduring legend of the Codex Gigas!

Attendees are also encouraged to bring small A&S projects to work on and share with others.

Feast:
There will be a roast pig dinner with all the trimmings by Master Reynard de la Rochefoucauld. Please direct any dietary concerns to the Event Steward. Feast will be capped at 50 individuals.
