Defending the Gate XV

The year is 1523 in the Germanic city of Memmingen.  The snows have barely melted and all though out the winter, the Luther Reformation has spread like wildfire amongst the peasants.  There is a call for able bodied souls to gather and revolt against the corrupt hierarchy.  We are to meet in late March to rail against the city gate. Memmingen needs your arms.  Misguided peasants are attempting to storm the city in a revolt.  Law and hierarchy must be maintained.  A call to arms has been sounded to Defend the Gate. Came all to Defending the Gate XV, whosever’s side your on.  Partake in fighting, fencing, archery and A&S.

Martial Activities:  Archers can look forward to a great shoot designed and executed by Cain Meylyn (aka Kat). Rapier fighters will have the opportunity to participate in scenarios created by Maestro Dante di Pietro. Heavy fighters will defend the gate in melee scenarios.

Arts & Sciences Activities: 
German Legends, Fairy Tales and Folklore.  Documentation not required but encouraged.  Overall prize will be awarded for by populace vote.  A best documentation by prize will be chosen by The Royalty. An A&S Tea will commence at elevenses.

Site Restrictions:  The site is dry. Pets are not permitted (except service animals). Site opens at 9 am and closes 9 pm.

Merchanting Information:  Merchants are welcome!  Plenty of space inside the Hall. Tables and chairs available. (Limit 2 per merchant.) Please contact the Event Steward if you wish to sell your wares.

Other Information:  NOTE: This is a NEW site, from any that we have used before.  There is a large hall near the martial fields in case of climatic rabblerousing. A Herald’s Consult Table will be available at our event.

Servers from the Renaissance Club of Mary Washington University will be auctioned off in a traditional style. If no service is purchased for your table, service will be at your own risk. This is the main fundraiser for this student group.

Directions: 


From the North, South, and North-East (Washington DC)
Take your best route on Rt 95 to Fredericksburg, VA.
Take Exit 130B to Rt 3 - Plank Rd (West), Fredericksburg.
Travel 3 miles to Gordon Road and turn Left.
Travel 6 miles to the end of Gordon Road and turn Left onto Brock Road.
Make near immediate Right into the American Legion Post.



From the North (Dulles Airport)
Travel South on Rt 28 to Rt 66 West.
Take Exit 43 B onto Rt 29 South/West.
Travel South on Rt 29/ Rt 15 to Rt 663 - Alanthus Rd and turn Left. (This will be close to Culpepper)
Travel 0.1 mile and turn Left onto Rt 762.  Make a near immediate onto Rt 669 across the railroad tracks.
Travel 6 miles to the end of Rt 669.  Turn Left onto Rt 3, heading East.
Travel 11 miles to Brock Rd and turn Right.
Travel 9 miles South on Brock Rd and the American Legion Post will be on your Right.
From the North-West (Winchester)
Take your best route to Warrenton.  (Rt 50 to Rt 17)
Get onto Rt 29 / Rt 15 South.
Travel South on Rt 29/ Rt 15 to Rt 663 - Alanthus Rd and turn Left. (This will be close to Culpepper)
Travel 0.1 mile and turn Left onto Rt 762.  Make a near immediate onto Rt 669 across the railroad tracks.
Travel 6 miles to the end of Rt 669.  Turn Left onto Rt 3, heading East.
Travel 11 miles to Brock Rd and turn Right.
Travel 9 miles South on Brock Rd and the American Legion Post will be on your Right.


From the West (Charlottesville, Lynchburg)
Take your best route to Orange and head East on Rt 20.
Travel 12 miles from Orange and turn Right onto Rt 621 – Mine Run Road.
This will turn into Orange Plank Road.  Travel 11 miles on Rt 621 to Brock Road.
Turn Right onto Brock Road, heading South.
Travel 7 miles and the American Legion Post will be on your Right.
