The Barony of Dun Carraig invites you to join us for our birthday. We celebrate the illustrious history of our barony and the Society as a whole, by harking back to that font of historical accuracy.....HOLLYWOOD. Many of us first became interested in the SCA through Robin Hood, The Princess Bride, or King Arthur, so join us for a day of movie-inspired silliness to recapture that magic.

Where: Izaak Walton League, 4200 Gardiner Road, Waldorf, MD. 20601

When: November 11, 2006. Site opens at 9 AM and closes at 10 PM. We would like to thank those who remain onsite after that time for their generous offer to help with clean-up.

Martial Activities: Fighting….fencing….torture….revenge. (Well, okay, maybe just the first two. And archery!)
Come take advantage of one of the last chances we'll get to fight, fence, and shoot outdoors before the icy grasp of winter closes in. The day's combat will feature our Champions' tourneys in fighting, rapier, and archery. Those who aren't from Dun Carraig, don't feel left out! We encourage you to take part in these competitions and put our potential champions through their paces. Make them earn their position as Baronial Champion.

Arts & Sciences Activities: Bring me….a shrubbery.

For those not interested in fighting, there's also plenty to do inside. Join us for a game of cards, chess, mancala, and other period games at our gaming table. Artisans of all sorts are encouraged to show off their work at our A&S display. Again, projects inspired by a favorite movie are encouraged, but all A&S displays are welcome.

The event will also feature various classes. (See the website for specifics as they are posted.) Those who are interested in teaching a class, please let us know so that we can add you to the schedule. Classes don't have to be movie-themed; any and all topics are welcome.

Gentles are encouraged, though certainly not required, to wear garb inspired by a favorite movie (one that takes place in period, of course!). Two costume prizes will be awarded: “Most Hollywood” and “Best Period Interpretation of a Movie Costume.” (The second prize will be awarded to the gentle whose movie-inspired costume also shows a high level of accuracy.)

Cost: For feast, a fee will only be charged for children 0-5 if they require a feast seat. Also, although there is no set family cap, gentles with large families are encouraged to contact the Event Steward if the cost is a problem. Make checks payable to "Barony of Dun Carraig - SCA, Inc.

Site Amenities and Restrictions: Site is wet, and candles are permitted. The site also has limited showering facilities. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building, but a designated smoking area will be established, away from the main area of the event. As it is hunting season, the site will not allow pets, and gentles must stay out of the woods and surrounding area. (Signs will mark the event boundaries.)

Feast: A scrumptious feast will be prepared by Mistress Rose of Black Diamond and Master Philip of Ghent. The feast will feature a mix of period dishes and Hollywood-inspired fare. Can you tell which dishes are period and which aren’t?
We wish to be accommodating to everyone's dietary needs, but we can't do that if we don't know about them. Please contact Cook@Birthday.DunCarraig.net with dietary concerns.

Merchants: Merchants, there is *no* merchant fee. All that is required is a paid pre-reservation and a note indicating that you'd like a table to sell your wares. (Merchant tables will be reserved on a "first come/first served" basis.)

Children’s Activities: There will be children's activities outdoors, with a children's table inside in case the weather is less than kind.

Directions:
From the DC Area: Take your best route to the 5 South exit on the southern side of DC Beltway (Exit 7A). Just before the town of Waldorf, 301 will merge with 5. You will need to make a Left turn to stay on 5. Follow directions from the * below.
From the Baltimore Area: Take your best route to 301 South. Just before the town of Waldorf, make a left turn onto Maryland 5 South. Follow directions from the * below.
From the Virginia Area: Take your best route to 301 North across the Potomac River. You will drive through the town of Waldorf. Just after leaving Waldorf, turn right onto Mattawoman-Beantown Road. Then, make a right onto 5 South. Follow directions from the * below.

*Go 2.7 miles after the turn to Poplar Hill Road. Turn left on Poplar Hill Road and continue 1.3 miles to Gardiner Road. Turn right on Gardiner Road and go 1.3 miles to the Izaak Walton League property. Gardiner Road will become a gravel road as you near the property. Gardiner Road will end at the site parking lot.
