Baronial Birthday
(2015-10-24 - Site opens at 10 AM & Closes at 10)
Dun Carraig
The year is 1347 and we are in beautiful Italy. Trade routes from China to the Black Sea where Italian merchants trade for the silks and spices so highly valued in Europe are open! Despite the plague\'s unwelcome arrival on these trade routes we will be having a sumptuous Italian feast provided by the wonderful Mistress Rose. This event will showcase the martial and artistic skills of our populous and aid our Baronage in the selection of Their Champions. Please come and challenge them! And fear not - we have enough Indulgences to keep everyone safe!.
Martial Activities: There will be a Heavy Tourney, Rapier Tourney, Archery Shoot and a Thrown Weapons Range
Rapier Tourney: The tourney will be a \"William Marshall\" style tourney. Each fencer will get 7 coins and will be divided into one of two groups A or B. Any person from group A can challenge anyone from B. The challenged (B) can decline the challenge, \"apologize for the offence\" and lose a coin to the challenger (A). If B accepts as challenged he can choose the weapons. The winner of the match gets 2 coins from the loser. When you are out of coins you are out of the tourney. The fencer at the end with the most coins is the winner
Arts & Sciences Activities: While we enjoy the luxuries of Italy, the Black Death looms and will eventually take over 100,000 lives within the walls of Florence. Although the plague took many victims in a select number of years, death was still an integral part of everyday life in the middle ages. Birth and death were very intertwined. Shorter life spans due to war, poverty, and primitive medical knowledge gave us artifacts such as prayer books, religious relics, and paintings of the afterlife. Our Birthday A&S competition will feature items related to death. Items may be from any genre (weaving, painting, sculpture, etc.), and include depictions of death, as well as items related to the process of death/burial such as a shroud. The competition will be populous based, allowing attendees to vote for a personal favorite. There will be a small bonus for items documented to Italy.
