A Day in the Middle East
(2007-02-17 - Site opens at 10:00 AM & Closes at 10:00 PM)
Dun Carraig
The Barony of Dun Carraig invites you to spend a day in the medieval Middle East. This year we will also be treated to the presence of their Majesties in full Turkish regalia as they invest our new Baron and Baroness. There will, of course, be the usual drumming, dancing and enough fabulous food & drink to keep all attendees energized throughout the day.
Martial Activities: As with last year’s event, there will be no fighting activities planned for the day. This is a day to relax with your friends, learn a new dance and eat a great feast.
Arts & Sciences Activities: Artisans of all sorts are encouraged to show off their work at our A&S display. One of the competitions will be for Best ME garb with two prizes - one for those new to the SCA, the other for those new to middle eastern studies. In both cases "new" would mean less than a year. The event will also feature various classes including a dance class for children. (See the website for specifics as they are posted.) Those who are interested in teaching a class, please let us know so that we can add you to the schedule. We’d love some more dance and drumming classes! Cost:
Adult, Member: | $ 7.00 Day-Trip | $ 9.00 Feast |
Adult, Non-Member: | $10.00 Day-Trip | $12.00 Feast |
Child (6-17): | $ 5.00 Day-Trip | $ 5.00 Feast |
Site Restrictions: Site is DRY and candles are permitted. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building, but is allowed in the designated smoking area. The site does not allow animals other than service animals. Feast: A sumptuous feast will be prepared by Mistress Minowara Kiritsubo. If you attended this event last year, you will be happy to know that she had been persuaded to once again present a wonderful variety of intricate and tasty Middle Eastern dishes. There will again be a Mezze (day board) of finger foods to keep the dancers going throughout the day. We wish to be accommodating to everyone's dietary needs, but we can't do that if we don't know about them. Please contact Mistress Minowara Kiritsubo with dietary concerns. Dining will be at low tables, so please bring pillows to make you comfortable. If such seating arrangements present a problem for you, please contact the Event Steward to arrange more traditional seating. We would much rather sacrifice ambiance than the comfort of our esteemed guests. Merchants: Merchants, there is NO merchant fee. All that is required is a paid pre-reservation and a note indicating that you'd like a table to sell your wares and the space requirements. It will be our pleasure to provide a table for your use. Please note that merchant tables will be reserved on a "first come/first served" basis. Other Information: Children’s Activities: There will be a full day of children's activities including a dance class especially for them. Site opens at 10 AM and closes at 10 PM. We thank those who remain onsite after 10PM for their generous offer to help with clean-up. Event Steward: Lore Bubeck (Laurie Foster), 3184 Calvert Blvd Lusby MD, 20657.
