Day at the Races III
(2006-11-11 - Site opens at 10 AM & Closes at 9 PM)
Ponte Alto
Reservationists: Cyprus: a crossroads for nobility, crusaders, and pilgrims journeying to and from Jerusalem, Acre, Byzantium, France, Germany and England. Cyprus has been a setting for intrigue and treachery, pageantry and royal weddings. As our Baron and Baroness of Ponte Alto pause here on their journeys, we will enjoy the noble pastime of hunting and racing our falcons. Come race with us, indulge in a few wagers (chocolate) on the best bird, enjoy some games, and relax over a fine evening feast.
The Races: Bring your favorite bird (specifically, those that vaguely resemble balsa-wood gliders) and join in the contest of speed and accuracy. See the web site (http://pontealto.atlantia.sca.org/datr.php) for more details on the construction and rules of the races. This site also provides Ponte Alto’s policy for reservation refunds. There will be a limited number of “rental” birds of various qualities available to adopt, courtesy of Lady Delfina’s Aviary for Retired Birds. There will be separate races for children aged of 10 and under. Arts & Sciences Activities: There will be a prize for the most creative falcon entered in the Races. Artisans! (DON'T exit at 50: It’s very hard to get across the traffic to where you need to be.) After crossing Route 50, turn left at the light onto Rugby Road. Go straight through the intersection of Rugby and Route 50, and IMMEDIATELY turn left onto the Route 50 service road. This road curves right, becoming Kings Way. The church is on the left.
