Please come join us in celebration of the of Tir-Y-Don’s Baronial Birthday. Their Excellencies, Baron Matheu and Baroness Isabel, requests the presence of those brave of heart and strong of will from the populace of Tir-Y-Don for contests of skill so they may select their Heavy, Rapier and Archery Champions. They also call forth the excellent, skilled artisans of the land to compete in the Baronial Arts and Science competition, as well as several other A&S competitions (open to all).

Martial Activities: Heavy Armor and Rapier Baronial Champion Tournaments will be held on site the day of the event. The Archery Baronial Champion tournament will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2012 (time TBD) at Newport News Park. Reminders: To compete, on the day of the competition, archers must possess an up-to-date Newport News Safety course card and either an annual pass or pay a daily range fee of $2.00. Letters of intent for those desiring to compete in the Heavy and Rapier Champion tournaments should be forwarded to her Excellency, Lady Isabel, by March 16, 2013. Letters of intent for those desiring to compete in the Archery Champion tournament should be forwarded to her Excellency, Lady Isabel, by March 2, 2013.
 
Arts & Sciences Activities: There will be several A&S competitions/displays:
(1) In order to select the Baronial Arts and Sciences Champion, her Excellency Lady Isabel provides the artisans a choice. In honor of Saint Patrick, she requests her artisans to create an article in any form (leather, wood, textile, etc), except food, that one would have with them while on pilgrimage to Mount Croach Patrick in Ireland in July of 1200AD. Or, the artisans may present artwork of any sort (wood burning, weaving, embroidery, illumination, etc) that contains the image of a thistle. Regardless of the type of entry, the artisan must also submit some sort of documentation to support the artwork.
(2) Muriel McArtuir is sponsoring a cooking competition open to all – A Pilgrims Picnic. She requests a dish or pastry that one would bring or hope to obtain while on pilgrimage to Mount Croach Patrick in Ireland in July of 1200AD. Dishes will be judged by a 3 person panel on taste and presentation. Documentation is encouraged but not required. The competitor should refrain from using New World ingredients.
(3) Brewing competition – The brothers of Woodside Priory will be hosting a Brewing competition at Baronial Birthday and would encourage any and all brewers to participate. The competition will be held in three categories: beers, meads/wines, and cordials. Documentation is required. Entries will be judged based on the Atlantian Brewer\'s Guild guidelines. (4) Lady Mariana will be offering two classes in chain making.

Cost Notes: If pre-registered by March 1, 2013, the adult day-trip fee is reduced to $8.00 (for non-members add $5.00 fee) and the adult evening feast is reduced to $8.00 ($10.00 for non-members). Lunch is a seperate fee of $5.00..

Site Restrictions: No original containers, no open flames, no pets. Parking is limited. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
 
Feast Information: Lunch: Lord Cormac will prepare a lunch for the general populace of consisting of a choice of two hearty soups, with a selection of fruits, veggies and cheeses. Evening Feast: Prepared by Lord Brian Crawford will consist of four courses. The first course will consist of a cold plate of bread, cheese, butter, and seasonal fruits; the second course will be a capon after the Flanders fashion (chicken poached in white wine and beef broth along with herbs) served with a compote of root vegetables (parsnips, carrots, turnips and cabbage cooked with white wine, honey and spices); the third course will be Scotch Collops (sliced beef, tenderized and marinated, served with sauce of beef broth and herbs) served with peas with sippets (peas with a light garlic cream sauce) both dishes intended to be served over sippets (medieval croutons); and he will present a fourth course of foole (a custard desert similar to the modern trifle). Take your best method to Interstate 64.

From I64W, take Exit 250B toward VA-105/ Fort Eustis Blvd. The ramp will end in a signal light. Turn left onto Jefferson Ave (VA-143W). Immediately get in right line. Take first right onto Fort Eustis Blvd. *

From I64E, take Exit 250B toward VA-105E/ Fort Eustis Blvd/Yorktown. Merge left onto Fort Eustis Blvd.*

*After 3.6 miles, from Fort Eustis Blvd, turn left onto US-17N/George Washington Memorial Hwy. In 0.3 miles, turn left onto York Warwick Drive (7-11 on corner). In 0.3 miles turn right onto Grafton District Road. Grafton District will intersect Cockletown Road. Turn left onto Cockletown. The clubhouse is immediately on the right.
