Windmasters' Hill

Their Excellencies Callixtus and Adriana and the Barony of Windmasters\' Hill invite you to join us at Betsy Jeff Penn 4H Center in Reidsville, NC the weekend of February 15-17, 2013. Although the winter winds blow fiercely in the second month of the year. Fear not for the cabins as well as the hall and class room spaces are all heated to help us ward off the chill. We hope you plan on being a part of our Barony\'s Annual Celebration.

Martial Activities:  Master Gaston du Valmont (BlackbirdXLVI[AT]gmail[DOT]com) will serve as Marshal-in-Charge for the day.

Arts & Sciences Activities:  Below are the basic categories so that those who are inclined can begin to plan and work on projects. Full details will be forthcoming and should anyone have questions before then please feel free to email Lady Sajah.

Viking Toys & Games, in any documentable medium, documentation required. There will be a youth category for this with a separate age-considerate prize.

Viking/Norse beverage display and tasting, documentation/redaction required, critiques given for all entries, prize for the winner.

Viking wood or bone carving, documentation required. Items can be tools, household items, personal items, jewelry, etc.

Viking/Norse poetry, documentation/redaction required. There will be a youth category for this with a separate age-considerate prize.

Research paper on a facet of Viking life - food, drink, clothing, conquest, etc. Full bibliography required. Winning paper will be published in the Windlore, our Baronial newsletter.

Additionally, although the cabins are heated, if you prefer more warmth you may want to bring a space heater or electric blanket.

Site Restrictions:  Pets are permitted only on a leash outdoors only - they are NOT ALLOWED in ANY of the buildings. Fires allowed only in pre-existing fire pits. Swim in the lake at your own risk; no lifeguard is on duty. Alcohol is permitted for those over the age of 21. No original containers. Take your empties and trash home with you. Parking directly by the cabins is prohibited. It is advisable if you have a cart to bring it with you for loading and unloading. You may bring camp stoves for cooking; however, no food may be cooked or prepared in the cabins.

Feast Information:   A feast for 120 persons shall be prepared by our Head Cook Hrosvitha von Celle

Merchanting Information:  Please contact the the Katerina de Kelly, if you would like to merchant. Please be prepared to let him know what you are selling, your tent size (including ropes), whether your tent is modern or period, and whether you will be arriving on Friday or Saturday.

Other Information:  There will be children\'s activities. To celebrate the spoils of pillaging there will be a bardic! Cell Phone Reception: Cell phone service in this area is spotty and may be unavailable under certain service providers. To help maintain the medieval ambiance at the event for everyone, we ask that everyone keep their cell phone on vibrate or turn it off while on site for the duration. Important note about Children/Minors at Ymir: Please don\'t make us turn away your child at the gate! Unless you are the child\'s parent or legal guardian, we must have a properly completed and notarized Minor Medical Authorization Form. This includes grandparents and other relatives. Directions:

FROM RALEIGH, BURLINGTON- Follow Interstate 85/40 WEST to Greensboro. When given the option of following I-40 OR I-85, stay on I-40. Exit right onto Lee St. (Hwy 6) toward downtown Greensboro. Follow Lee Street approximately 2 ½ miles, then follow the signs to join Hwy 29 North. Merge onto 29 N and continue north out of Greensboro until you come to the 4th Reidsville exit (Highway 14 - Eden, Yanceyville, Reidsville). Turn left at the top of this ramp, following Highway 14 North. After the third traffic light, (past Lowe’s, Food Lion & WalMart) turn left onto Salem Church Rd. There is no light, but there is a large billboard and a horse farm near the corner. Continue on Salem Church Rd for approximately 2 miles, then turn HARD right onto Cedar Lane. The 4H Center is on the left, at 804 Cedar Lane

FROM EASTERN & CENTRAL GREENSBORO: Take US. 29 north to Reidsville, continue on US. 29 Bypass to the 4th Reidsville exit (Highway 14 - Eden, Yanceyville, Reidsville). Turn left at the top of this ramp, following Highway 14 North. After the third traffic light, (past Lowe’s, Food Lion & WalMart) turn left onto Salem Church Rd. There is no light, but there is a large billboard and a horse farm near the corner. Continue on Salem Church Rd for approximately 2 miles, then turn HARD right onto Cedar Lane. The 4H Center is on the left, at 804 Cedar Lane

FROM WESTERN GREENSBORO: Follow Highway 68 or Highway 220 (depending on your place of origin) North to Highway 158. Turn right (East) onto Highway 158, towards Reidsville. Near the outskirts of Reidsville, loop down to the right onto Business 29 North. Follow Business 29 North (towards Danville) for approximately 3 miles. Turn left onto Moss Street (traffic light, just past the John Deere Store & Baptist Church). At end of Moss Street, turn left onto Wentworth Ave, then follow it as it curves uphill. At the top of the hill, turn right onto Salem Church Rd, just after the Upper Piedmont Research Farm. Turn left at the next opportunity, onto Cedar Lane. The 4H Center is on the left, at 804 Cedar Lane

FROM WINSTON-SALEM: Take State Route 158 east out of Winston-Salem (Accessible from Business I-40, about 2 miles east of the US 52 interchange). Follow Highway 158 East through Stokesdale, then on toward Reidsville. Near the outskirts of Reidsville, loop down to the right onto Business 29 North. Follow Business 29 North (towards Danville) for approximately 3 miles. Turn left onto Moss Street (traffic light, just past the John Deere Store & Baptist Church). At end of Moss Street, turn left onto Wentworth Ave, then follow it as it curves uphill. At the top of the hill, turn right onto Salem Church Rd, just after the Upper Piedmont Research Farm. for Berrymore Rd. Turn right onto Barrymore Rd., then travel approximately 3 miles. As Barrymore curves to the right, watch for Cedar Lane intersecting from the left. Turn left on Cedar Lane. The 4H Center is on the right at 804 Cedar Lane.

FROM DANVILLE, VA: Take SR. 29 Bypass south towards Reidsville to the exit for Highway 14 – Eden, Yanceyville & Reidsville. Turn right at the top of this ramp, following Highway 14 North. ***Once on site, turn right at the stop sign and proceed up the hill to the parking lot on the right. All cabins and facilities are within easy walking distance of the parking lot. Please note that speed limits (20 mph) are enforced.
