Storvik's Baronial Birthday: A Viking Raid
(2008-10-17 - 2008-10-19 - Site opens at 3 PM & Closes at 3 PM)
Storvik
Join Storvik on a fine autumn weekend to celebrate the harvest and then protect it. Come spend the weekend with Viking raid on the English coast done Storvik-style. Camp and enjoy the cool autumn air and the camaraderie of a good fire. Website: http://storvik.atlantia.sca.org/
Martial Activities: Join the Barony of Storvik on October 18 for a Viking raid on the English coastline, circa 900.
The heavy fighting will consist of a branched campaign in which the circumstances of victory or defeat in one scenario will shape the next one. Win the battle outside the abbey? Next fight, you'll be brawling in the chapter house. Lose the battle outside the abbey, and you’re falling back through the mountain pass. Fighters will form boat crews and will remain with their crew for the day. Sometimes these different crews will work together; sometimes they will fight each other. Since this is war, you should expect the unexpected: changing scenarios, the sudden appearance of enemy troops, unexpected opportunities. We plan on allowing combat archery in every scenario. The winning crew will receive the campaign map to hang in their hall and a chest of wondrous loot worthy of their deeds. Bring your friends--the more fighters in an event like this, the more fun it will be.
It's a great opportunity for one last big melee before the end of the campaigning season! The event also will feature target archery, a range of rapier scenarios, and possibly siege. Questions regarding the fighting should be referred to the Marshal-in-charge, Joselin d’Outremer at knightmarshal@storvik.atlantia.sca.org
There will be Viking themed rapier and target archery activities.
Arts & Sciences Activities: The theme of the day is a Viking Raid, so present your best items for English and Viking cultures circa 900. There will be a prize for best English item and best Viking item.
In addition Baroness Catherine Grace Fitzlewis is sponsoring a competition of Whimsies. This is a special display/competition where we hope to see your most unusual, delightful, and fun period projects i.e., dolls, subtleties, toys, fans, etc.) Anything you have come across in your research, and had to make for the sheer joy, uniqueness, and unbelievable authenticity of it. Documentation is required so that we can fully appreciate your object, but we aren’t going to bite if it’s not super polished. There will be several prizes awarded at the judges discretion based on the unusualness, authenticity, workmanship, and “wow cool!” Baroness Catherine Grace Fitzlewis is sponsoring this competition, so questions should be directed to her at (202) 561-4888 (please no calls after 9:00 PM).
There will be a games area set up for Viking and early English games.
