Martial Activities: House Turniva, in conjunction with the Barony of Stierbach, proudly presents…
The First EVER House Turniva Pentathlon Challenge on June 22, 2013 during the Stierbach Baronial Birthday.
In order to participate in the Turniva Pentathlon Challenge, individuals must compete in five categories: Armored Combat, Rapier Combat, Target Archery, Thrown Weapons, and Arts and Science.
Each of the five events will have a weighted score and will count equally toward the overall challenge.
The Challenge shall be run in the following manner:
1. A&S phase: Drop off your A&S entry at the display table after checking in and setting up. Be sure to let Lady Amie Sparrow, the A&S coordinator, know that your entry is for the Pentathlon. The Muse for this Challenge is Atlantian symbols in the medium of your choice. Be it elements for heraldry, awards or anything that makes you think Atlantia. Some level of documentation is required for the process and medium.
2. Combat Phase: The Rapier and Armored Combat fields will be run in a progressive bear pit in 2 blocks of 45 minutes. Each participant will have the opportunity to compete in both as there will be a 15 minute break in between each 45 minute block. E.G. Joe fighter starts in the AC list and fights for the first 45 minutes. During the break, Joe then switches to his R kit and then fights in the second 45 minute block on the R list.
3. Missile Phase: Upon completion of Phase 2, the pentathlon entrants will make their way to the TA and TW ranges. There will be a specific course of fire for each range. Details the day of the event. Time limit to completing Phase 3 is close of range.
At the conclusion, all of the points will be tallied and the entrant with the overall highest score will be announced as the winner of the First EVER House Turniva Pentathlon.
The winner will receive a $100.00 Gift Certificate to the SCA merchant of his/her choice.
The Pentathlon is being held in conjunction with the day’s activities and you do not have to enter the Pentathlon to enjoy the day. So come fight, shoot, throw and create.

Bring your Arts & Sciences projects so that your work can be admired and praised by the populace! There will be no judging. Minimal documentation is requested for the item, just enough so that folks know what they’re looking at.
For example,
Time period – late 16th century
Culture – England
Inspiration – I found a picture of a leather shoe on the Victoria & Albert Museum website.
What materials did you use? – Leather
Think of it this way…your work may inspire someone to create their own. It often does! What would you tell someone to help that person with his or her own project? Contact Lady Amie Sparrow (amiesparrow[AT]yahoo.com) with any questions.
