Gemütlichplatz
(2015-04-25 - 2015-04-26 - Site opens at 5:00 PM & Closes at 11:00)
Isenfir

Gemütlich means a situation that induces a cheerful mood and inner peace, with the connotation of belonging and social acceptance, of coziness and unhurry.

The Shire of Isenfir invites you back to Gemütlichplatz to join us in commemorating the 499th anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot with a day of classes and an evening of sumptuous feasting, dancing, and beer hall camaraderie.

Penned in 1487, the Reinheitsgebot, or beer “Purity Order,” was signed into law on April 23, 1516 by William IV, Duke of Bavaria. It stated that beer may only be brewed with water, barley and hops. Put forth as a quality control law, many believe its true purpose was to end a price war between brewers and bakers over the price of wheat and rye. The law defined German beer production and taxation well into the 20th Century, and many German breweries pride themselves on remaining Reinheitsgebot-compliant to this day.

Brewers and innkeepers in 1500s Bavaria, of course, were likely infuriated at this biased and unjust law that favored bread over beer. So join us as we gather to drink the last of our weissbier and hefeweisen at Das Bergenrote Gasthaus, a rural inn and tavern on the road between Ingolstadt and Munich.
