Fantastic Beasts and Where to Hunt Them / Baronial Birthday
(2017-11-11 - Site opens at 9:00 AM & Closes at 9:00 PM)
Dun Carraig

Feast your eyes upon the strange and magical menagerie of animals inspired by Joanna the Mad. Or, if you believe yourself worthy, try your might against creatures from myth and legend.

There will be hunts for both armored and rapier fighters, as well as an archery shoot full of fantastic beasts.

Website: http://birthday.duncarraig.net

Martial Activities: For armored fighters, a hunt in the woods. Hunters will be teams of up to three, with one archer or spearman as the hunter and up to two single- swordsman as the hunting dogs. Fighters representing fantastic creatures will be found throughout the woods, and hunting teams will receive a token for each beast they defeat.

For rapier fighters, a similar hunt will be held, with tokens for each beast defeated.

Beasts of myth and legend are not defeated easily, and may require multiple hits or specific strikes to vanquish them. These rules will be announced by the marshals at the beginning of each hunt.

On the archery field, the following shoots are planned:
Popping pixies: short range targets
Be the bowtruckle: increasing distance targets
Pheather the Phoenix:
Lifting the Midgard Serpent: timed shoot
Dodging the ogre\'s club: move and shoot/timed
Bobbing basalisk: moving target

Their Excellencies will choose their armored, rapier, and archery champions based on the martial activities.

Arts & Sciences Activities: Bring us your most fantastical beast, in any form, any medium, any size (if it won’t fit through the door it will have to guard the entrance to the hall). While documentation is not required, it gets extra points, especially if you have a good story to tell about your project. A picture or photo or other presentation of the inspiration for your project should be included. There are prizes in both Youth and Adult categories. Also, we will be choosing our Baronial A&S Champion, so consider vying for that position. It can be either a separate entry or part of the overall challenge.

A Gather of Scribes - bring your materials, your ideas, your questions, your knowledge, and join us at the scribal table.

Baronial Bardic Champion Competition: A performance, of any sort, on the theme of fantastic beasts, hunting, and/or veterans. A winner will be chosen by Her Excellency.

Poetry Competition: A poem in any style on the theme of fantastic beasts, hunting, and/or veterans. Note that the poetry and bardic competitions have the same theme, to allow those who wish to perform their poetry to enter both competitions with a single poem.

The poetry competition is sponsored by the Poeta Atlantiae, who will provide a prize, likely either a book or something sparkly.

A variety of period games will be available in the hall for the enjoyment of the populace.
