Midsummer Novice Picnic

As the SCA enters its 51st year, the Barony of Hawkwood invites you to travel to its scenic western mountains, and take a step back in time.  Evoking the simple backyard bbq that started the SCA, the Incipient Canton of Stormwall is pleased to offer you their Midsummer Novice Picnic! There will be plenty of activities throughout the day for the newcomer to veteran.  Marshal activities will include armored, rapier, youth, and thrown weapons.  A&S competitions and classes will be ongoing, and an Artisan’s Row to display all talents (please contact the Event Steward if you wish to teach or display).  While there is no feast planned, we will have a potluck picnic. Site Restrictions: This is a private residence.  Please respect this and do not enter the house. No fires.  No pets. No alcohol, except for the A&S Competition.

Feast Information: No feast, but a Potluck Lunch.  We will provide the main dish meat and beverages.  Please bring something to share that coordinates with your mundane last name.
A-E – snacks & appetizers (cheese, crackers, dip, etc).
F-L – salads & bread (fruit, pasta, greens, etc)
M-S – side dishes & vegetables
T-Z – desserts
Please bring and ingredient list for allergy concerns.  Don’t forget your feast gear!

Directions:

Google Maps does give correct directions to house.

From Asheville: Take I-40 west.  Take Exit 27 (Highway 74) to Sylva.  Follow bottom directions.
From Franklin: Take Highway 23 north. At Dillsboro, turn right onto Main Street.  Follow bottom directions.
From Knoxville: Take I-40 east.  Take Exit 27 (Highway 74) to Sylva.  Follow bottom directions.

From Highway 74 whether coming east or west, take Sylva Exit 83 and follow down to red light at railroad tracks. Turn right after the tracks onto Main Street and go approximately a quarter mile past Mark Watson Park (baseball fields and tennis courts), turn left into the driveway directly across from the turn into Autostar, follow road straight all the way up through the trees past the black top to gravel. Look for parking signs.
